Huawei Pura 70 series components were a mystery until an online tech repair firm confirmed that the flagship lineup contains more Chinese parts than previous models. A new teardown report has appeared and pointed out some internal details.

The iFixit and consultancy TechSearch International firm has recently conducted a teardown of the Huawei Pura 70 series, especially the Pro variant to analyze how much of the Chinese parts the newly launched devices used in their making.

During the disassembly, the company found that a NAND memory chip and many other components belonged to Chinese suppliers. Although the firm didn’t confirm which manufacturer the NAND chip mainly relates to in the native region.

Note that the teardown for Mate 60 by TechInsights revealed that the device uses DRAM and NAND chips from SK Hynix. However, the latest Pura 70 Pro dismantling indicates the progress of Chinese suppliers and companies in self-sufficiency.

Even though TechInsights already made a teardown report of the Pura 70 Ultra, it didn’t mention any such thing at that time. The next Chinese parts segment includes the Kirin 9010 chipset – a modified version of the Kirin 9000s used for Mate 60.

iFixit’s chief teardown technician – Shahram Mokhtari said:

“While we cannot provide an exact percentage, we’d say the domestic component usage is high and definitely higher than in the Mate 60. This is about self-sufficiency.”

Pura 70 smartphones still run on SK Hynix-developed DRAM chip but the company has now shifted to its own HiSilicon unit for the NAND flash memory chip, made up of NAND dies each with a capacity of 1 terabit and matches its rivals.

Improved Chipset

The teardown analysts also cited that HiSilicon might have developed the memory controller for the Pura 70 series. It further reveals that the tech giant only polished its chip’s skills for the Pura 70 series and made gradual improvements.

The iFixit experts noted that the Kirin 9010 roots on a 7nm process and is quite close to to the 9000s processor, which doesn’t offer any major upgrades. But one should not underestimate Huawei as SMIC seems ready to introduce a 5nm process later this year.
