On January 12, Huawei P50 Pocket foldable smartphone enters the global market that comes with the vertical inward fold design. The phone later made wide availability in major markets including Europe and the Middle East. The new information reveals that Huawei P50 Pocket uses hinges produced by Metal Injection Moulding (MIM).
In the history of Huawei’s foldable phone development, the P50 Pocket represents the fourth major breakthrough in hinge design. This innovative hinge allows the P50 Pocket to be unfolded to form a seamless screen surface for the user.
While developing the hinge, Huawei engineers conducted numerous simulations and tests to assure durability. However, the MIM hinges were reported to improve impact resistance by 62% and tensile strength by 33% as well as provide a solid foundation for the product’s durability.
Speaking about the MIM hinges, they are widely used across the consumer electronics sector. It provides high levels of reliability and the ability to produce complex, miniaturized designs, which allow for the production of thinner electronic devices.
