Huawei Mate XT 2 will be first foldable to use hardware-level privacy display

Huawei is taking privacy to a whole new level with the Mate XT 2 tri-foldable display technology. It will be the first folding phone in the industry to feature a hardware-level anti-peeping screen solution that shields your private data from side viewers.

As we approach the Mate XT 2 launch, Huawei is highlighting upgraded features of the triple-foldable, and one such is the advanced privacy display technology.

The company has dropped a new teaser revealing how the privacy display works on the Mate XT 2. The video shows some tri-folds mounted diagonally on upright poles.

One of the team members then turns on the “Privacy Display” feature from the Control Center of the tri-folding smartphone. And here’s when the magic happens!

Huawei moves the camera in a 60° arc, showing how the device precisely hides the screen content when someone tries to sneak peek from the sides. Thus, the device offers a completely dark view when peeping from the edges, covering the display area.

The company introduced the hardware-level Privacy Display with the recently launched MateBook Pro S. The new screen tech uses a dual-pixel design with two distinct sets of pixels that light up the display in two different modes: Standard and Privacy.

Activating the privacy mode blacks out the screen from the edges so a person sitting next to you can not see what you are actually up to. Thus, your data remains private from others even when you are working on the handset.

Currently, the feature is available only in the MateBook Pro S laptop and the upcoming Mate XT 2 tri-foldable. But it seems the Mate 90 series could be the next in the queue to showcase this advanced screen technology.
