Huawei dominates China’s premium smartphone market for Q1 2020

Huawei’s lead over China’s smartphone market is way ahead compared to other smartphone makers. While the support of Chinese consumers helping the company to survive on the face of US sanctions and maintain its smartphone shipments.

According to new data from Counterpoint Research, Huawei captured the top place in its premium segment in its homeland for Q1 2020. The company has sold over 90% of Huawei’s premium segment in Q1 2020 was in China. Huawei’s total premium smartphone sales include around 42% of 5G smartphone.

“5G devices cornered one-fifth of the total premium segment during the quarter. Huawei with its strong push in China captured close to 42% of the total 5G device sell-through in the premium segment.” wrote Counterpoint.

Apple led the overall global premium segment with a 57% market share, followed by Samsung and Huawei, While most of the brands declined, Oppo grew 67% YoY and Xiaomi also grew 10%.

The Q1 smartphone market report from Counterpoint shows that Huawei shipped 49.0 million smartphones compared to 59.1 million units sold last year. Huawei’s total YoY growth declined by 17%.
