Huawei CBG chief will also handle Cloud and AI business, could shift from smartphone BG

Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, Richard Yu AKA Yu Chengdong will be responsible for Huawei Cloud and Computing BG, which will be announced in February. This news is confirmed by people familiar with the matter to the Chinese media.

Mr. Yu joined Huawei in 1993 and has served as 3G Product Director, Vice President of the Wireless Technical Sales Dept, President of the Wireless Network Product Line, President of the European Area, Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer, Chairman of Huawei Device, and CEO of the Consumer BG.

Regarding this matter, NetEase Technology (Chinese media) asked Huawei and they said that Richard Yu is the head of Huawei’s cloud and computing BG and will still be responsible for Huawei’s consumer business and smart car business.

Cloud & AI Business Group includes Cloud BU, computing product line (server, etc.), storage, and machine vision product line.

According to January 2020 data, Huawei made a new round of adjustments to its organizational structure, elevating Cloud & AI to Huawei’s fourth-largest BG, and Hou Jinlong served as the president of Cloud & AI BG.

On the other hand, the report also suggests that Richard is no longer responsible for Huawei’s smartphone business. However, an official confirmation is yet to come

Aside from this, the rumors of Huawei’s smartphone business will be sold to a company led by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission appearing online.

Huawei pointing to rumors and said that it has no plans to sell its smartphone business. The company will insist on building the world’s leading high-end smartphone brand and strive to provide consumers with an excellent product experience and services.
