A digital blogger from Weibo has revealed that Huawei is testing new functionality to its Earthquake Warning feature on Huawei phones in China. The tipster suggests that this feature is currently under development and the company is taking feedback from the users.

Images shared by the blogger show that the new Earthquake warning feature adds two new types of warning notifications. These new additions are powered by the HMS Core.

The new additions come in the form of two warnings types under two categories:

  • Catastrophic Warning
  • Vigilant Warning

The feature detects and assigns the warning in different categories according to the estimated magnitudes and estimated impact. The feature also displays disastrous warning information and an alarm will ring to remind the user to avoid danger.

However, one thing to note is that the warning reminder is set to appear in the notification bar.

Huawei Earthquake Warning Feature:

When an earthquake occurs, the intensity of the tremor in your area is affected by the distance from the epicenter and the magnitude. The higher the magnitude and the closer to the epicenter, the stronger the tremor.

As the distance from the epicenter of your area increases, the destructiveness of the earthquake will gradually decrease. The system will issue different seismic perception levels to equipment in areas at different distances from the epicenter based on the location of the epicenter, estimated intensity, and warning magnitude.

In areas where the tremor is weak, only one notification message will be received and suggest taking defensive measures.
