Alibaba plans to launch 5nm Arm server chip to compete with Huawei and Amazon

Arm server technology is becoming a new trend of Server business due to its flexibility, small size, efficiency, and low price. In the coming time, it might take an important turn for server-based computing while replacing the X86 server processors.

Speaking of which, the current server market has many rulers with the leading technologies. However, the top place is acquired by Intel with 90% for the X86 process technologies. Although,  Huawei’s Kunpeng Chips and Amazon’s AWS Graviton can be counted as new emerging leaders in the industry.

Now, recent reports show that the third biggest global provider of IaaS cloud- Alibaba is also planning to launch 5nm technology-based Arm server chip products. Afterward, it’ll count as another Chinese technology company to uses self-developed CPUs. Seems like, the service provider is preparing to compete with Huawei and Amazon.

Alibaba 5nm Arm chip:

According to the report, since 2019 Alibaba is researching the 5nm Arm chip processing technology with a complete exposition by the middle of 2021. The 128 cores and 5-nanometer processes technology has been used to reach the level of products from Huawei and Amazon.

In addition, at the Yunqi Conference, this Chinese cloud service provider recently informed that its most advanced server chip enters the manufacturing process. To be mention, Yunqi Conference is the yearly developer conference for Alibaba Cloud.

Furthermore, the next annual Yunqi Conference is scheduled for 19th October which will be held in Hangzhou China. In 2018, the company announced another chip-making subsidiary “Pingtou” which mainly manufactures end-to-end products such as Hanguang 800 chips.

Huawei ARM Servers:

The TaiShan ARM Servers of Huawei are the next-generation data center server-based on the Huawei Kunpeng processor. Meanwhile, the Kunpeng 920 processors are designed with multi-core computing architecture integrating superior computing technology.

This Shengzeng based firm mainly uses the 7nm technology with 64 2.6GHz core ARMv8 architecture to produce the ARM chips. Moreover, it mainly targets the requirements of diversified efficient computing power while preserving its security, and openness.
