Xiaomi rumored to collab with Huawei, BBK to launch Google-free HyperOS

Amid the buzz of Android 16-based HyperOS testing, Xiaomi is rumored to collaborate with BBK and Huawei to launch a Google-free software system. The news has appeared at a time when Xiaomi users are eagerly waiting for HyperOS 3.0.

XiaomiTime noted that Xiaomi is looking forward to join hands with BBK (the parent of OPPO, Vivo, and OnePlus) and Huawei to build a Google-free HyperOS ecosystem.

The move seems in favor of Huawei, which has been out of the Google bubble since 2019 following the U.S. sanctions. Perhaps Xiaomi now aims to take a similar approach and build a completely independent operating system for its users.

U.S. authorities sanctioned Huawei in 2019, prohibiting the use of GMS for its smartphones. Though the company didn’t give up and launched its in-house HarmonyOS software system and initiated the HMS (Huawei Mobile Services).

Despite several struggles, the company has started improving its consumer business, chips, and smartphone experience for its users. But this move can be risky for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi is considered the world’s second-largest Android phone brand with Google AI features. But dumping Google at this stage could reduce its user base, increase the cost for alternative services, and may even decline its market share.

Hence, that won’t be the case. Though Xiaomi could take a step to make its HyperOS more independent. For instance, the company could prioritize its services over Google apps. It may further reduce its dependency on Google features.

How this collaboration between Huawei, Xiaomi, and BBK will work against Google is still a mystery. It will be interesting to see whether this rumor turns out to be true in the future or fades away with time.
