Windows license expiring for Huawei PCs, HarmonyOS can be next choice

Huawei MateBook PCs have been relying on Windows for years, but the OEM may soon jump to HarmonyOS in this case. A report says that Microsoft’s license for supplying the Windows operating system to the Chinese firm is about to expire.
New input reveals that the Windows OS will become invalid for Huawei PCs later this month. Thus, the company has to look for an alternative or choose HarmonyOS.
One of the company’s senior executives said earlier that Huawei will ditch Windows for its next-gen PCs in favor of HarmonyOS. He mentioned that due to the U.S. sanctions, Microsoft will stop supplying its advanced OS to MateBook devices.
“Due to sanctions, Windows PCs may stop being supplied, and this may be the last batch. In the future, only our HarmonyOS PCs will be used,” said Richard Yu.
Following the restrictions, the Windows supply license may not get renewed. As a result, Huawei could switch to its self-developed operating system for PCs.

The Chinese tech maker recently launched an all-new MateBook D 16 Linux Edition. The device is similar to its previous version but runs on Linux instead of Windows.
Linux was created by a Finnish software engineer, Linus Tovalds, and doesn’t belong to the American companies. It is a free, open-source operating system kernal, the core of which is used for various devices ranging between phones to computers.
By the time the HarmonyOS PC completes its development, Huawei may use Linux in its notebooks. Although it is unclear when the new software will launch officially.
HarmonyOS integration in Huawei PCs has raised questions about how these notebooks will be sold in the European markets. We can expect a tablet-like treatment for these devices. Things will get clearer in the coming days.
