Will Huawei launch second tri-fold this year? A leak says otherwise
Huawei overtook every brand last year with the world’s first tri-fold launch and has seemingly started preparing for the second one. But it looks like we have to wait for a long to witness the company’s 2nd triple foldable smartphone in the market.
While many tech vendors are still finding ways to develop a tri-fold, Huawei took the lead in this trending innovation. After the Mate XT, the company is rumored to build the second triple foldable handset and unveil it by the end of this year.
Although a leak says otherwise. According to DigitalChatStation, Huawei has suspended the development of its second tri-fold and is unlikely to launch it in 2025.
First tri-fold development time:
The Chinese phone maker has been working on its first tri-fold for years. As per Huawei Consumer Business Chairman Richard Yu, it took around 5 years to plan and work on the R&D capabilities of the ultimate creation.
Even though the Mate XT impressed everyone with its Z-like form factor and three slim screen panels, it is quite fragile in terms of durability and needs improvements.
A test revealed how the device survived the dirt-torture test but suffered in display durability. It got full marks for innovation but requires better screen solutions.
2nd tri-fold next year?
Huawei aims to bridge all gaps in the second tri-fold that were left in the Mate XT. The company is likely exploring better technologies for its tri-folding handset. Perhaps, these could be the reasons behind the delay of the next Mate XT.
The company hasn’t confirmed the news yet. Hence, it is unclear if the rumored new-gen Huawei tri-fold will launch in 2025 or take another year for its debut.
The tipster further reveals that the OEM will continue to upgrade clamshell and book-type folding devices normally this year. Thus, we can expect new flip-flop models and another X-series foldable smartphone later this year.
Apart from these inputs, the leak highlights that the Chinese foldable market isn’t seeing a large growth at present. On the flip side, Android devices may become more conservative in the future, launching one model at a time instead of 2-3 handsets. The aim is to focus on making an all-rounder foldable phone.
