WhatsApp preps PIN protection to safeguard ‘usernames’ feature

WhatsApp is working on a new “PIN protection” feature for usernames. It will be the most secure method in the chat application to protect your private and confidential chats from anonymous contacts and prying eyes. Let’s get into the details.
As noted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a new PIN protection tool for usernames. The feature has been found in the latest Android beta 2.25.17.48 version.
This new feature ensures that it keeps away unwanted spamming messages from your device that could knock on your door through the username-based chats.
Looking into the shared image, users will see a banner on the top of the Chats tab saying:
“Reduce unwanted messages
Add a pin for the first time messages sent to your username. Get started.”

Even if someone knows your username, they won’t be able to send you a message unless they have your PIN. Simply put, the PIN here acts as a gatekeeper for first-time contacts and requires the correct PIN to begin a conversation with you.
The PIN protection feature will work as an extra layer of security. The feature is available to a limited beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program. But it will soon go official with a stable release.
