US will ban DeepSeek R1 similar to Huawei and TikTok?

DeepSeek R1 began swirling in the US ban speculations. The Chinese AI model is grabbing a lot of attention in the market due to its impressive traits. Though being a China-made technology, the foreign government could take measures on it.
Huawei and TikTok are the two main companies that are blacklisted by the US authorities for security reasons. The foreign government believes that Huawei and TikTok use such technologies in their products that can spy on US confidential data.
Even though Huawei denied such allegations, the US put the company behind the sanctions bar. Looks like, the US could ban DeepSeek R1 just like Huawei/ TikTok.
US banning DeepSeek R1?
US administration and experts are pointing out DeepSeek R1 for some security concerns. As per government, the Chinese AI tech could become a threat to US security.
Michigan Republican – Chairperson of the Bipartisan House Select Committee says that the US needs to impose even tougher export controls on techs critical to DeepSeek’s AI infrastructure. The official said that such technologies seem a risk to the U.S. data and can hinder the country’s advanced AI ambitions.
On the other hand, Ross Burly – the Co-Founder of the nonprofit Center for Information Resilience alerted that DeepSeek’s arrival is increasing concerns over privacy issues for the U.S. Ross had an interview with CBS News and said:
“More and more people will use it, and that will open the door to more and more personal data just being given away to the [Chinese Communist Party] and being sent to mainland China to be able to inform them of their activities.”
Not only the US Commerce Department but the Navy has also commanded its members not to use the Chinese DeepSeek AI tech. The U.S. Navy issued an email, the department instructed that no one should use the DeepSeek AI as it is a potential threat to the country’s security and users’ privacy.
Email reads:
“We would like to bring to your attention a critical update regarding a new AI model called DeepSeek. It is an imperative tech that team members do not use for any work-related tasks or personal use.”
Speaking of DeepSeek R1 privacy policy, it says that the company collects details like users’ device model, OS, keystroke patterns, or rhythms, IP address, and system language. It also obtains service-related, performance info, and crash reports.
Perhaps the data collection of DeepSeek AI is one of the reasons behind US concerns. It would be worth seeing what measures the authorities take on this matter.
