US restrictions on AI chips can level up Huawei’s role in China: Nvidia

Nvidia has once again pointed out that if the US continues to sanction AI chips, it will help Huawei to level up its game in China. These restrictions will eventually make the Chinese OEM a “hero” on its home turf, turning a loss for the US technology.
Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, today said that if the United States doesn’t stop putting restrictions on AI chips in China, Huawei will take advantage of this situation.
Even though Jensen said their technology is a generation ahead of China’s, he believes that if the US doesn’t participate in China, Huawei will seize the opportunity and outcompete everyone else in the AI chips field.
Simply put, Jensen hints that the constant US restrictions on advanced AI chips in China will prompt Beijing to foster native companies like Huawei to build their own AI semiconductor ecosystem in the country.
During the Viva Technology Event in Paris, Jensen said:
“If we want the American technology stack to win around the world, then giving up 50% of the world’s AI researchers is not sensible … So long as all the AI developers are in China, I think China stack is going to win. And so we just have to be mindful of near-term actions on long-term, unintended consequences.”

Nvidia is now focusing on Europe as it believes the continent has one of the richest AI communities anywhere on the planet. It sees Europe as a very large market for AI.
Ren Zhengfei recently told a Chinese media outlet that the US has been overhyping Huawei AI chips. Although the company has yet to make a lot of improvements.
