Upcoming Huawei HarmonyOS PCs likely to stick with Kirin X90 chip

Huawei is preparing two new HarmonyOS PCs for the second half of 2025, and these devices will likely use the same Kirin X90 chip that debuted with the MateBook Pro and Fold PC. There might be no change in the PC processor this year.

A Weibo tipster said Huawei will not upgrade its PC chip this year. It will continue to use the same Kirin X90 processor for its upcoming HarmonyOS PCs.

Following the leak, some netizens speculated major upgrades for the next year’s Kirin PC chip. Perhaps, it might adopt the rumored 5nm architecture in 2026.

Kirin X90 launched with the Huawei HarmonyOS-powered MateBook Pro and foldable PCs. While the chip was expected to rely on a 5nm process tech, TechInsights teardown showed that the company is still using the old 7nm technology.

But with the help of software capabilities, the Kirin X90 chip is offering a significant boost to Huawei PCs. These notebooks carry a set of amazing features and AI capabilities over the traditional Windows-based MateBook versions.

Huawei has recently given some information about its upcoming PCs. It says that the new notebooks will support sideloading of apps, allowing users to download applications from any source, excluding the HarmonyOS-powered app store.

On the greener side, these PCs could deliver a tablet-like experience with a detachable keyboard. Huawei took a similar step in 2022, with the MateBook E series. The device claims to bring a 2-in-1 tablet + PC experience to users.
