Samsung preparing to flex against Huawei Mate XT with G-type tri-fold

Samsung is preparing its first tri-fold – Flex G, to take on Huawei Mate XT in the global market. The former company showcased two interesting triple-foldable phones at the MWC 2025 event, trumpeting another major fight for innovation.
Huawei currently rules the global foldable market. Despite challenges, the Chinese OEM surpassed Samsung twice in the worldwide folding smartphone ranking.
Meanwhile, Mate XT’s global welcome opened new doors for Huawei to firm its foothold in the overseas market. The Z-shaped three-screen folding device is giving a tough spot to Samsung in many aspects, such as thickness, creativity, and more.
Although Samsung aims to win this battle by being the “best tri-fold maker”, instead of first. The company teased the concept of two tri-fold phones at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. Now, it has presented its innovation at the latest MWC conference.
The South Korean firm introduced two tri-foldables: Flex G and Flex S. Both models claim to bring durability to the extreme with amazing upgrades in cover screens.

- Flex G: Samsung’s first tri-fold with a twice-inward folding mechanism. It has three screens, out of which two panels fold inside, toward the center. The structure aims to protect the display by keeping them side.
- Flex S: Samsung’s second tri-fold, which is similar to Huawei Mate XT. It follows the Z-shape and inward + outward folding structure of the Mate XT.
Samsung is trying to respond to the Huawei Mate XT with an even larger external display. It is expected to be bigger than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, with a 6.49-inch outer screen. For reference, the Chinese brand tri-fold features a 6.4-inch cover display.
On the flip side, the Galaxy phone maker aims to improve the durability and folding aspects with Flex G. Even though Huawei Mate XT is quite durable and offers a smooth folding mechanism, it has suffered in display durability.
The South Korean company aims to learn from others’ bloomers and craft a more durable and super-strong tri-fold device. Perhaps these could be the key areas where Samsung is trying to beat Huawei Mate XT with the Flex G tri-fold phone.
Samsung Flex G against Huawei tri-fold is expected to launch in Q3 or Q4 this year. Consumers may witness an innovative “three-screen phone” showdown later in 2025.
