Samsung may debut G-type tri-fold after champion Huawei Mate XT
After Huawei, Samsung is planning to add a pinch of innovation to the tri-fold trend with a G-type design. The company is reportedly developing its first triple-foldable smartphone. It is expected to debut in the second half of this year.
Samsung and Huawei were battling for the world’s first tri-fold crown. But the latter won this fight in September 2024 by launching the Mate XT triple foldable.
Now Samsung is seemingly ready to unveil its first tri-foldable in 2025. It may be available in limited quantities. The highlight of this device will be its unique design.
SisaJournal noted that the Samsung tri-fold will bring an innovative G-type look, different from the Huawei Mate XT. It may feature an inward + inward folding mechanism and claims to offer a more reliable experience to users than ever.
Mate XT has an S or Z-shaped look. It uses an impressive inward + outward mechanism which makes the opening and closing of the device quite easier.
Although the case could be different with Samsung’s triple foldable. The idea is to protect the screen by keeping it inside the device when folded. It will fold both display panels inwards two times, introducing a completely new form factor.
Costlier than Mate XT?
Inputs further reveal that Samsung tri-fold could be costlier than the Mate XT. For reference, the Mate XT is priced at 20000 yuan ($2700). But the new report suggests Samsung’s creation will be “much more expensive than existing foldable.”
Being costlier, the device will also be available in less than 300000 units. The reason is production challenges and components implementation.
That raises cost concerns for Samsung’s tri-folding phone even before its official release. The device is currently in the making and expected to debut later this year. It would be worth seeing what upgrades Samsung tri-fold brings over the champion Huawei Mate XT.
