Pura X user reveals Huawei improved Kirin chip power efficiency

A Pura X user has recently revealed that Huawei has significantly improved its Kirin chip power efficiency. The company has used a new design for its folding phone SoC that not only offers better performance but also reduces power consumption.
FixedFocus received a message from an anonymous netizen (probably a Pura X user). The message reveals that Huawei has optimized the power efficiency of its new Kirin 9020 chip, this time using a different chip packaging technology.
The message shows a major difference between the Mate 70 RS Kirin 9020 and the Pura X chip. The latter offers significant CPU cooling over the former device.
On the other hand, the new Kirin 9020 chip provides 5% improved power efficiency compared to the previous version. As a result, Pura X users will get more efficient performance and a notable reduction in energy drainage than Mate 70 Pro.
The tipster noted that Huawei has used a separate “heat dissipation pad” between the chip and the DRAM memory to achieve effectual thermal conduction and cooling.

A thermal or heat dissipation pad is a compressible material that improves heat transfer. It generally fills in the microscopic air gaps that prevent heat conduction and eventually increase the efficiency of heat dissipation.
Pura X teardown hinted that Huawei has used Apple-like chip packaging design to generate a more improved Kirin 9020 version. After the foldable, the Pura 80 series is in the line of expectations regarding an even better Kirin chip.
Huawei Central’s Take
Even though a 5% improvement is a minor change, it suggests that Huawei is gradually progressing in the chipset sector. The new Kirin 9020 version is now said to offer reduced power consumption, extreme performance, and more power-saving over the original chip variant.
Despite the lack of advanced chipmaking tools, the company is improving its phone and AI processors. Though the changes are minimal, the OEM may soon progress more in this area. It would be worth seeing what chip upgrades Pura 80 will get.
