Nvidia once again flagged Huawei as powerful competitor in chip battle

Nvidia has once again tagged Huawei in the most vigorous chip competitor list. While sharing the quarterly outlook on Wednesday, one of the company’s executives revealed how he sees the firm’s position in the Chinese AI semiconductor market.
The annual filing of Nvidia shows that Huawei counts as one of the strongest rivals in the company’s latest competitor list for its constant growth in the AI chip industry.
It’s the second time when the US chipmaker flagged Huawei as a powerful competitor. Last year, Jensen Huang – the CEO of Nvidia said that Huawei is a strong rival in the race to produce the best AI processors. [Read the full story HERE]
Nvidia now pointed out growing competition from Huawei’s side in four out of five fields regardless of the US restrictions. These are chips, cloud services, computing, and network products.
“There’s a fair amount of competition in China. Huawei, other companies are … quite vigorous and very very competitive.” – said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
Jensen added that despite U.S. sanctions, Huawei has improved its chipmaking abilities. Due to the ban on advanced 5G chips and other techs, the Chinese OEM struggled for 5 years. Later, it chose self-reliance over dependency on the U.S.

Looks like Huawei is coming back on the ground with improved Kirin 5G and Ascend AI chips. After gaining a significant foothold in China, the company now aims to return to the global smartphone market with its self-made processors.
Huawei now plans to increase its AI chip production this year. The company will likely produce 100,000 910C and 300,000 910B processors to take over Nvidia in China.
910C which is capable of delivering 60% of Nvidia H100 performance seems a new hope for Huawei to lead in the Chinese AI industry, giving a tough spot to Nvidia.
