Nvidia criticizes chip rules

Nvidia criticizes the new U.S. chip rules. The chipmaker believes these “last-minute” anti-China regulations won’t help the US authorities with national security. It will only push the world toward the alternative technology options in the market.

The Vice President of Nvidia’s government affairs – Ned Finkle recently said how he sees the new chip regulations. According to him, the White House seemingly tries to take over Trump’s return with its latest chip trade policy.

He also noted these chip rules won’t help the U.S. with national security but rather create a void for it in the tech world. These regulations will eventually cover the sale of US AI chips which is a negative sign for both the company and the country.

US is trying these anti-China efforts to keep advanced techs away from Chinese firms like Huawei. After the Mate phone maker released new Kirin chips, the US has become more alert towards the Chinese chip industry, trying to hold them back.

Although Nvidia sees this move as a major concern. The Vice President said:

“The extreme country cap policy will affect mainstream computers in countries around the world, doing nothing to promote national security but rather pushing the world to alternative technologies. It makes no sense for the Biden White House to control everyday data-center computers and technology that is already in gaming PCs worldwide disguises as an anti-China move.”

Nvidia criticizes the new US chip trade rules as it will also limit the firm with AI chip exports. Only a few countries will continue to access Nvidia’s AI chips while most countries will struggle with the upcoming chip trade restrictions.

Biden tries to ‘preempt’ Trump

The new chip policy may go live two weeks before Trump takes Biden’s seat. Adding more, Finkle said that the last-minute Biden’s policy doesn’t seem a good move. It will more likely be criticized by the U.S. industry.

“We would encourage President Biden to not preempt incoming President Trump by enacting a policy that will only harm the U.S. economy, set America back, and play into the hands of US adversaries.” – Ned Finkle.

Nvidia further sees Trump’s return positively. As per the US chipmaker, the Trump administration may impose fewer rules and chip policies than the Biden empire.
