New-gen Huawei tri-fold expected to feature Kirin 9020 chipset

A new input states that the new-gen Huawei tri-fold could equip the Kirin 9020 chipset. The company is expected to adopt significant changes for this year’s triple-foldable handset. And one of these major enhancements could be a new chip.

Huawei unveiled the world’s first tri-foldable – Mate XT in September 2024 against the iPhone 16 series. Even though the device won hearts for its iconic design and innovation, it showed difficulties in performance and durability to an extent.

Now Huawei is expected to launch a new-gen tri-fold this year with better changes and Kirin 9020 chipset. A Weibo tipster reveals that the company will also use a new camera sensor to enhance the photography aspects of its new tri-fold.

FixedFocus stated that the new-gen tri-fold may be equipped with a Kirin 9020 chipset. For reference, the Huawei Mate XT reportedly runs on the Kirin 9010 5G (launched with the Pura 70 series), paired with the Maleoon 910 GPU.

Kirin 9020:

The new chipset debuted with the high-end Mate 70 smartphones. It has an advanced Maleoon 920 GPU which offers improved renderings and gaming performance.

On the flip side, the latest chip claims to deliver 40% improved performance and 20% more energy efficiency. The small cores of Kirin 9020 are 50% more efficient than the 9010 chip. It also equips the industry’s first 3GPP R18 5G-A SoC.

• Kirin 9010: 2 x 2.3GHz + 6 x 2.18GHz + 4 x 1.55GHz

Thus, we can expect better performance with the next-gen rumored tri-fold device. Apart from the chipset, the device is also said to use the Mate 70 multi-spectral sensor for accurate color restoration and offers brighter shots even in dim lights.

Mate 70 series and Mate X6 introduced the new multi-spectral lens which promises to restore colors of an image impressively. Regardless of the light and distance, the lens provides clearer, more vibrant, and detailed outcomes with every click.

Perhaps, the company may use the same lens for the next-gen Mate XT. The tech giant hasn’t marked confirmation on this news. Hence, let’s take this input with a grain of salt at present and wait for the official information.
