Apple may continue to witness a harsh decline in iPhone sales in China this year, as Huawei is constantly gaining ground on its home turf. IDC reveals that the American tech giant could see another weak year in its second-largest smartphone market.

International Data Corporation or IDC states that Apple iPhone sales could drop by 1.9% in 2025, as Huawei is gaining ground in China. Many other Chinese brands like Honor, Xiaomi, and OPPO are also giving a tough fight to the iPhone maker.

The report says that the removal of iPhones (below 6000 yuan) from the Chinese subsidy scheme is one of the major reasons behind Apple’s sales drop this year.

On the flip side, Huawei gains the attention of Chinese customers via great discounts and subsidies on its devices, ranging from flagship to budget-friendly models.

Apart from the Chinese sector, Apple may also face a shipment drop in the global market due to tariff conditions. The US is now threatening the iPhone maker to build its US-selling handsets in the same country or pay a 25% tariff.

Some analysts at IDC predicted that the Chinese smartphone shipments will increase by 3% this year as ‘government subsidies raised demand for Android models”.

Over the past few years, Apple has seen sluggish iPhone shipments in the Chinese smartphone market. Despite a classy brand and premium devices, the company faced a sales slump every year due to Chinese brands in the market.

Speaking of the last quarter, Apple recorded a sales drop of 9% in China and has been the only brand to see negative growth. The reason is a lack of AI, as other Chinese phone brands are introducing amazing features and smart capabilities.

IDC expects to see a positive rise in iPhone sales following China’s mid-year 618 and Double 11 shopping festivals this year.
