iPhone Duo debuts, marking Apple’s entry in foldable race

On September 9, Apple’s iPhone Duo debuted, opening a new chapter in the foldable market. The device lives up to its name, featuring two wide iPhones in a versatile, durable design. But is it strong enough to rival other fold brands? Let’s check.

The first-ever iPhone foldable has a 7.6-inch inner screen that looks like the Pura X Max. Meanwhile, the outer screen measures 5.4 inches, again similar to Huawei’s wide folding phone. Both displays offer more area than the iPhone 18 Pro.

Display parameters also include a Super Retina XDR all-screen OLED panel with Dynamic Island, AOD, ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate, 3000-nit peak brightness, an anti-reflective coating, a P3 wide color gamut, and Haptic touch.

iPhone Duo comes in two shades: Night Sky and Star White. It has a titanium design with a ceramic shield on the front and back. The camera bump shows two iPhone 17-like horizontally arranged sensors. The dimensions of the device are:

• Unfolded: 117.8 x 164.6 x 5.2mm
• Weight: 254 grams

Apple’s first foldable runs on the A20 Pro chip – a 6-core chipset with 2 super cores and 4 efficiency cores. It has a 7-core GPU neural architecture, a dual 16-core neural engine, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

Coming to the camera part, iPhone Duo has a 48MP fusion main camera with a 26mm, f/1.6 aperture, sensor-shift OIS + Hybrid Focus pixels; a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 13mm, f/2.2 aperture, and a 120° field of view, Hybrid Focus; and a 12MP 2x telephoto zoom with a 4x optical-quality zoom range.

The front side has a 12MP center-staged camera for the outer display and an under-display FaceTime lens for the inner screen with Auto Image Stabilization.

Apple’s iPhone Duo foldable packs a dual-battery architecture – one high-energy cell on each side of the hinge that delivers Pro-like performance and an impressive all-day battery life. Storage options count 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB.

The inner display can run 31 hours of video playback, and the outer screen can last for 44 hours. Combined usage counts 24 hours of general use. It can charge up to 20% in just 20 minutes, while wireless charging takes 30 minutes.

Other features include an IP68-rating, Split View, Siri AI, Apple Intelligence, and more. The device will be available for pre-order on October 16, going on sale on October 23 with a price tag of $1999 (US) or $83.29 per month for 24 months.
