International Business Machines (IBM) lost for the first time in 10 years of its U.S. patent office reign, meanwhile, Huawei has made its place in the top 10 list, which is a sign.

A report compiled by Harrity LLP’s Patent 300 list reveals that Huawei claimed the 7th spot in the top US patent players in 2022 with 3023 utility patents with a 3 percent of year increase as compared to 2021.

This is a big improvement for the Chinese tech maker despite being U.S. sanctions. Meanwhile, Huawei is continuously ramping up efforts to increase its R&D and its patent portfolio.

Samsung remained, IBM decreased:

Samsung now sits on the top spot of the US patent top 300 list with 8513 US utility patents with a 0% change in its status as compared to 2021.

Coming to the heart of the story, IBM has grabbed 4743 patents with a massive 44 decline in the number of patents published by company. Signing a big shift in IBM’s patent strategy.

The decline reflects a strategy shift begun in 2020 to focus the IP portfolio on IBM’s core businesses and free engineers from the time-consuming patent process, said Dario Gil, head of IBM Research. “We decided to no longer pursue numeric patent leadership, but remain an intellectual property powerhouse and continue to have one of the strongest portfolios in the world in our priority technologies.”

According to the information coming from Armonk, a New York-based company said IBM has had the highest number of patents for the last 29 years. With that being said, the company has generated $27 billion in IP income since 1996.

Gil said IBM will continue to monetize its intellectual property including hybrid cloud, AI semiconductors, cybersecurity, and Quantum computing.

Global consumers are excited about the next Huawei smartphones and the company said it will continue to operate in the global market with smartphones and other new products.

Huawei Consumer Business Group COO, He Gang said that Huawei will keep releasing new smartphones, smartwatches, PCs, audio, and other smart products for global consumers.

The latest comment from the COO came during a media interview after the launch of the Huawei P60 series smartphones. He Gang also said that Huawei launched the latest flagship in Spring, which means its products are returning to normal and it’s good news for everyone.

Delayed in the past:

After the U.S. sanctions, Huawei was restricted from purchasing the required hardware technologies to build new smartphones and other devices. The low yield leads to the market share drop.

That’s why Huawei only launched one flagship, P50 Pro in 2021. The phone made it to the global market 6 months after in the first quarter of 2022. On the other hand, the last year’s Huawei Mate 50 Pro made its way to global consumers within 2 months.

These phones were launched without Google Mobile Services (GMS) and Play Store. Therefore, the sales volume in the overseas market remained invisible due to the GMS requirements. Another factor that hit Huawei phones is 5G connectivity. Still, Huawei managed to fill these downsides with new features and powerful camera technologies.

Aside from smartphones, Hauwei is continuously launching new smartwatches and earbuds devices for global customers and it has only increased.

According to the information, Huawei already announced Huawei P60 series will launch on May 9th in Munich and will be accompanied by Huawei Mate X3 and other products.

Huawei first launched satellite communication technology with the Huawei Mate 50 series and the company may not upgrade this phone to second-gen satellite features.

Huawei CBG COO, He Gang gave us the answer that the eligibility to upgrade over second generation satellite is related to the phone’s performance. He may be talking about the hardware as the new devices equip better antennas.

He further added that the company has no current plans to upgrade Huawei Mate 50 and Mate Xs 2 to second-gen satellite communication. However, there is more reason that he mentioned in this matter.

Now the Beidou satellite communication is in the public testing stage, about 30 free sending and receiving are provided every month, and many friends are wondering how long this policy will last. If commercial, what is the approximate price?

He gange said that Huawei is not an operator and cannot operate this satellite communication business. The current state of technology is in the stage of crowd-testing.

This includes testing with multiple organizations and providing such a free service to everyone in the way of crowd testing.

As for the commercial price, how to operate in the future will still be only decided by the operators and not by Huawei. The Huawei COO emphasized that Huawei is actively participating to cultivate a better tech industry and crowd-testing technologies. This will lead to the better of future organizations and achieve technological breakthroughs.

Huawei P60 and Mate X3

Huawei P60 and Mate X3 are packed with top-notch hardware specs and it’s revealed that China’s BYD electronics made key components of these flagship phones including the frame and the rear cover.

According to the information, BYD electronics has been confirmed to make the lightweight and stylish frame for the Huawei P60 series and Mate X3 foldable phone.

Specifically, BYD made some extra efforts for the Huawei Mate X3, the company has come up with the slimmest and lightest frame, which sets a new record for weight reduction in any foldable smartphone.

Notably, BYD uses aviation-grade wing aluminum to create a light and thin foldable frame in the industry. The entire thickness of the middle frame is only 0.3mm.

On the other hand, the weight of two middle frame parts only weighs 38 grams, which is equivalent to the ordinary smartphone frame. However, the contribution of this component is crucial in reducing the weight of the entire smartphone.

Furthermore, BYD has continuously tested the hinge with the frame to ensure its stability and reliability with the waterproof ratings.

Looking at the design, BYD brought up the new fingerprint-proof rear panel, which comprises both a glass and frost feeling. The new design reflects an Ambilight effect from multiple angles when it comes in the contact with light.

To create such a design, the BYD Electronics development team formulated a verification plan for product characteristics. It uses the evaporation coating solution to successfully achieve color and performance.

BYD Electronic Company Limited is a Chinese company manufacturing handset components and assembling mobile phones for its customers. The company has also designed equipment for previous flagship devices such as Huawei Mate 50 and P50 Pro.
