Huawei's return Chinese market Vivo

Hu Bashan – the Vice President of Vivo says that Huawei’s return to Chinese 5G smartphone market has eventually increased the competition level. The brand has become a major attraction point for consumers in the high and mid-range markets.

The executive recently had a small talk with the media about generative AI and smartphone competition in China. Hu stated that despite the trend, AI will take around 5-6 years to drive the smartphone market as a fundamental requirement.

Bashan added that many phone makers are implementing AI as an important part of their devices. Tools like AI image object removal and AI security are impressing users with their creative properties. This is the first stage to use AI for consumers.

Another stage is where tech vendors are coupling AI with the OS. This helps the device to identify users’ actions and requirements. Though the third stage needs high hardware computing power, which is only possible with upgraded chipsets.

“The current SoC performance is not enough, and its architecture must be close to the server performance requirements. This phase is still 5 years away” – says Hu Bashan.

Huawei’s value in the smartphone market

Vivo VP made a few points on Huawei’s return in the Chinese smartphone market. The executive sees the brand’s comeback as one of the biggest changes this year.

According to Hu, Huawei is now aiming to regain its market share by making major improvements to its smartphones. Its constant efforts will eventually increase the competition in the Chinese smartphone market as more people are now purchasing Huawei devices.

“The return of Huawei mobile phones has become the biggest variable in the Chinese mobile phone market. In essence, it wants to take back the market share that should belong to it.” – says Hu Bashan.

Hu mentioned that currently, six main phone makers in China are doing their best. They are busy finding their own goals and development routes. These brands will eventually uplift the smartphone competition to the next level in 2-3 years.
