Huawei unveils MateBook Pro, the first HarmonyOS-powered PC

The wait is over! Huawei has unveiled its first HarmonyOS-powered PC: MateBook Pro. After waiting for over a year, the company has finally taken the bold step of ditching the Windows operating system in favor of its self-developed OS.

Huawei showcased its HarmonyOS PC at the Hongmeng Computer Tech Summit on May 8. Now the company has officially introduced the device to consumers.

MateBook Pro comes in three colors: Clear Blue, White, and Black. It runs HarmonyOS 5.0 operating system with a bunch of AI features and smart capabilities.

The device has a dimension of 310 x 220 x 13.5mm and weighs 970 grams, giving a lighter and more convenient feel than the MateBook X Pro 2024 model.

It shows flying line design and gradient curves on the surface, reflecting a dynamic aesthetic. But the highlight is the exclusive HarmonyOS Smart Badge at the top. The device uses a unique micro-velvet body for a soft and gentle touch.

Display:

Huawei MateBook Pro features a 14.2-inch OLED Cloud Clear soft screen. It diffuses reflection to reduce the impact of light and sunlight, making the screen viewing more comfortable.

The device has a 93% screen-to-body ratio, a 3:2 screen ratio, a resolution of 3120 x 2080 pixels, 1000 nits peak brightness, 100% sRGB color gamut, P3 wide color gamut, 178° viewing angle, and multi-touch 10-point touch screen support.

Internal Configuration

MateBook Pro supports 24/32B RAM and three storage variants: 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. It has 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual band WLAN frequency, 2 x 2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.2, Nearlink technology, USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen 1), a 1.8mm key travel full-size backlit keyboard, a large touchpad, and a fingerprint power button.

Huawei has packed a 70Wh battery into the device, which has increased the online video playback by 70% and 32% battery life. It can run constantly for 10.2 hours. A 140W SuperCharge adapter can power up the device in no time. It also supports 66W reverse charging.

Screen: Huawei has used a new type of screen called Cloud Clear Soft Light. It is a nano-etching tech-powered display combined with a nano-magnetic optical coating process. Thus, it reduces glare while offering delicate and transparent rendering.

Body Structure: Huawei has used Falcon body architecture that ensures thinness and lightness at their peak. The tech provides a lighter yet tougher body.

Heat Dissipation: The OEM has integrated the industry’s first foam copper VC tech into the MateBook Pro with 5x increased surface area to improve heat dissipation and deliver 40W of performance release. It automatically drops by 10 degrees under an intensive work scenario.

Huawei MateBook Pro: Internal Features

Nearlink Scan Technology: Huawei MateBook Pro is the world’s first PC to use the Nearlink Scan. One can pair the device with a mouse and experience a fast, stable, wireless connection. Even if the device is offline or turned off, you can search it via Nearlink Search on phone.

One-Click Privacy Button: MateBook Pro has a super privacy switch on the right side. Enabling it can turn off the camera, microphone, and location to protect privacy.

Gestures: You can swipe up with three fingers to return to the home screen, use a three-finger hover gesture to open the multi-tasking center, single knuckle double tap to take screenshots, two-knuckle double tap for screen recording, and an air grab-release gesture to transfer files to nearby devices.

HarmonyOS 5 and AI features

Huawei MateBook Pro gives you an instant response without hovering for minutes like Windows. You can start operating apps, files, or anything in seconds right after opening the notebook.

The company has also updated the Celia AI app and added a smart key to handle weekly reports, document summaries, and more. It brings a meeting host reminder that reminds you in time and quickly checks the key points of the meeting.

It supports hand-eye coordination that enables smartphones, tablets, and PCs to act according to the eye. Users can continue app usage or switch a meeting presence from phone to PC without missing any point or facing an interruption.
