Huawei tops while Apple ranks second in 2024 Chinese tablet market

After smartphones, Huawei outperformed Apple in the 2024 Chinese tablet market. The latest report on this subject reveals that the MatePad maker has topped the tablet shipment ranking in China, leaving some top tech makers behind in the race.

IDC has published its analysis of the 2024 (full-year) Chinese tablet market. The research firm listed the top five tech makers that performed well in this phase.

The report shows Huawei at the first position while Apple follows it at the second spot in the 2024 Chinese tablet ranking. The former’s annual growth rate hiked to 5.7% year-on-year, while the latter company slipped down by 7% YoY.

Huawei has been at the top of the Chinese tablet market for five quarters straight. The OEM not only sold most tablets in the fourth quarter of 2024 but also performed excellently throughout the year. Let’s check each part in detail.

Q4 2024

Huawei occupied a market share of 27.8% in the fourth quarter of last year. For reference, the company earned a share of 30.8% in Q4 2023. But this time, there is a decline of 3% YoY. Still, the OEM ranked first with significant tablet shipment scores.

Apple also faced a decline of 3% YoY with a market share of 27.5% YoY. It is constantly facing fierce competition from Huawei and its AI-packed MatePad tablets.

2024 (full-year)

Huawei has also grabbed the winning crown when it comes to the 2024 (full-year) performance in the Chinese tablet market. The company excelled with a 32.3% market share. The company grew by 5.7% compared to the same period last year.

Apple ranked second with 26.6% of market share. Xiaomi obtained the third spot with 12.7% of the market share and a growth rate of 2.3% year-on-year.

Honor and Lenovo achieved the fourth (8.3% market share) and fifth (6.7% market share) positions, respectively. The overall market has shipped 29.85 million tablets in 2024 and gained 4.3% year-on-year.
