Huawei tops Q1 2025 Chinese smartphone market, Apple slips to fifth spot

Huawei has rocked the Chinese smartphone market in Q1 2025, while Apple has once again slipped to a lower spot. Despite various US challenges, the Pura X maker is achieving fruitful outcomes in the smartphone segment on its home turf.
TechInsights has shared a new report on the Q1 2025 Chinese smartphone market and revealed the top five rankers, like Huawei and Apple. Both firms performed well in the market, though one of them is at the top while the other is at the bottom.
As per the report, Huawei has sold around 13.7 million smartphone units in the first quarter of this year. The company has occupied 20% of the market share.
In terms of growth, the OEM’s annual progress has increased by 30.9% YoY. TechInsights said the Chinese subsidy program is the main creditor this time, as it not only reduced the product’s price but also boosted the market growth.
Many Huawei devices, like the newly launched Enjoy smartphones and the flagship Pura X, received a heavy discount through the Chinese subsidy plan. As a result, these devices and their price cut helped the company reach the top.

Xiaomi has achieved the second spot in the market with 13.3 million unit shipments and 19.4% of the market share. OPPO comes third as it shipped 10.7 million devices and achieved 15.6% market share. Vivo ranked fourth in this race.
Coming to Apple, the company has slipped to the fifth position compared to the last quarter (Q4 2024), where it achieved the second position. It has delivered 8.7 million iPhones in the Chinese market and procured 12.6% YoY.
Speaking of the overall market, China’s smartphone shipments have increased by 9% YoY to 68.7 million units. It would be worth seeing where Huawei and Apple fall in the second quarter.
