On September 6, Huawei launched its latest Kirin 990 series chipset, processed with 7nm FinFET Plus EUV technology and integrated 5G modem combined with Da Vinci Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for the next level of Artificial Intelligence performance.

The Kirin 990 processor series has made its debut in the flagship Mate 30 series for both 4G and 5G versions.

And as a fresh development of this story, industry sources have pointed out that Huawei has started the trial production of the next Kirin processor – Kirin 1000 (example name) processor using the 5nm technology process. And it will be commercially launched in the second half of next year.

The Kirin 990 chip uses the A76 based CPU architecture and the Kirin 1000 will be using the A77 architecture. However, we don’t have any official confirmation on the information provided by the source.

By looking at the tradition of Huawei’s previous launches, Huawei Mate 40 series will the first to feature this new chipset series but the company has a year ahead to rethink its strategy.

Since Huawei has just introduced the Kirin 990 processors, the world’s second-largest smartphone maker will use this for the upcoming flagship smartphones until the launch of Kirin 1000 in the third quarter of 2020.
