Huawei to improve satellite calling with new UI interface indicates patent

Today, the Chinese IPO office published a new Huawei patent with plans to improve the satellite calling feature user interface including new information.

This Huawei patent was applied on November 3, 2016, and received approval on October 10, 2023 (today). According to the patent certificate, the patent is valid until November 3, 2036.

New UI:

The description of the patent tech shows that this technology aims at efficient information and interactions with this new satellite calling feature.

In action, if a user dialed an emergency call, the screen will show the obtained current geographical location information on the emergency call screen. The UI includes one of the following elements – Text or Map.

Once connected, the user can share the rescuer of the current geographical location information on the emergency call UI. This will help the rescuer to be efficient and complete the rescue mission with a high success rate.

Satellite Connectivity:

Last year, Huawei introduced a unique satellite SMS technology. This allows the user to send SMS via satellite without a native mobile network. Earlier this year, Huawei released a second generation of Satellite SMS technology with the ability to receive SMS on the Huawei P60 series.

According to Huawei’s official introduction, when the mobile phone has no signal (no cellular network/WLAN network coverage) and is in an open and unobstructed environment, you can send messages through Beidou satellites in the “Beidou Satellite Message” service account in the MeeTime app and receive messages.

However, Huawei went two steps further and launched a new satellite calling capability with the recent Huawei Mate 60 series. Now, users can call via satellite without a mobile network. Yet, more improvements such as a new user interface will add a better user experience for satellite calling users in Huawei smartphones.
