Huawei strikes deal with 11 carmakers to boost self-driving safety against Tesla FSD

Huawei has enlisted 11 automobile makers in the latest “self-driving safety” approach against Tesla FSD. This move hints that the tech giant is all set to have a direct face-on-face with the U.S. automobile firm’s full self-driving technology.
The Chinese OEM is promoting its advanced driving system in China. It has recently unveiled some new automotive solutions like HarmonyOS Cockpit 5 and ADS 4.0.
But in the current scenario, Huawei Technologies is striking a deal and recruiting 11 Chinese carmakers to boost its self-driving safety initiative against Tesla FSD.
Huawei has taken this step at seemingly the right time, as Tesla is waiting for final approval to launch its FSD software in China. As per the details, the Chinese OEM is investing more in research and making marketing practices transparent.
Inputs further reveal that Audi China, SAIC, GAC, and others have joined the Huawei “smart assisted driving safety initiative.” The new agreement highlights the safety issues after a recent fatal accident caused by a Xiaomi smart car.
One of the statements on this new safety approach reads:
“We call on the entire industry to promote [EVs] in a realistic manner, clarify the functional boundaries and usage conditions of smart assisted driving, and let users clearly understand the true capabilities of their respective models.”
Apart from this perspective, Huawei will also discuss how far the new move can be helpful for users and enable them to learn the system usage correctly.
Huawei’s new approach also highlights some new terms for self-driving tech. For instance: Navigate on autopilot (NOA), Driving Safety, and advanced driver assistance.
The report adds that Huawei is taking this step following the government norms. Beijing authorities recently warned carmakers about how they hype their driving techs.
CMIIT also summoned over 60 companies’ executives instructing them to avoid using “smart driving” or “advanced smart driving” and “autonomous driving” words while promoting their self-driving technologies.
