Huawei P70 series is another amazing creation in the pipeline and the latest information suggests that these smartphones will equip two popular camera sensors namely Song IMX 989 and Omnivision OV50H. No doubt, the next P lineup will give a new definition to the term ‘photography’.

Tipster @DigitalChatStation dropped two posts on Weibo. The first one reveals that Huawei has started testing IMX 989 and Omnivision OV50H sensors for the P70 series.

Meanwhile, the second post mentions that the high-end models of the P70 lineup will bring a bold camera framework with upgraded optical functions. Perhaps, both tips hint that the company is making every possible effort to bring the best imaging phone in the industry.

Sony IMX 989 camera sensor

IMX 989 uses a 1-inch type sensor which exhibits a high dynamic range to enable better low-light performance. It further has the ability of precise color reproduction in images. Being small in size, it allows devices to have more space in the optical framework.

Another advantage of this sensor is its Quad Bayer color filter array which significantly improves light sensitivity and eliminates noise, depending on the light and resolution.

On the flip side, IMX 989 installs an Octa-PD phase detection system for better and faster autofocus capabilities. As a result, it helps in providing improved image quality.

Omnivision OV50H

Coming on the next sensor, OV50H is a high-resolution 50-megapixel image sensor. It is mainly used for the high-end rear-facing camera system for impressive shots with a maximized light intake.

The respective sensor has a 1.2-micron pixel in a 1/1.3-inch optical format. It supports 12.5MP video at 120 fps and high dynamic range (HDR) at 60fps. Notably, it is the first sensor to feature both horizontal and vertical quad-phase detection.
