Huawei reportedly to begin mass shipment of Ascend 910C next month

Huawei aims to begin mass shipment of its new AI chip – Ascend 910C, starting next month. A new report says that the tech giant is ready to help out the Chinese customers at times when they are eagerly looking for Nvidia H20 alternatives.

According to Reuters, Huawei Ascend 910C will enter the mass shipment phase as early as May. The company will begin delivering its latest AI chip on a large scale on its home turf, as the US is blocking Nvidia H20 sale in China.

The Ascend 910C came into existence in August 2024. News revealed that Huawei has been silently testing a new AI chip to rival Nvidia in the Chinese AI industry.

It further sent the new chip samples to top tech companies in China and started accepting orders, expanding its footprint in AI and taking on Nvidia’s clients.

Ascend 910C also made its way to DeepSeek R1 technology and is said to achieve 60% of Nvidia H100 inference performance. Looks like Huawei is now ready to begin the mass delivery of the latest AI processor to fill the gap of Nvidia H20.

Details reveal that the company has already made some shipments of the AI Ascend 910C. The good news for Chinese AI companies appeared when the US imposed new chip controls on Nvidia, restricting it from selling H20 chipset in China.

Ascend 910C

Huawei has used architectural upgrades for the Ascend 910C instead of tech changes. It merges two 910B chipsets into a single package via advanced integration. Simply put, the new chip has double computing power and memory capacity with “incremental improvements” and support for various AI workload data.

Paul Triolo, a partner at Albright Stonebridge Group, says:

“The latest US chip controls Nvidia H20 will mean that Huawei’s Ascend 910C GPU will now become the hardware of choice for (Chinese) AI model developers and for deploying inference capacity.”
