Huawei registers Mate V trademark, could be a new foldable smartphone

Huawei Mate Xs

Huawei has filed a new trademark at European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for the name “Mate V”. The application was filed on July 3, 2020, under the class 9 category including the smartphones and a bunch of others in the description.

Considering Huawei Mate X, the trademarked name “Mate V” is more suitable to a foldable phone rather than a regular flagship and also makes sense. However, it’s not the first time, when we’ve seen this trademark.

Last year, Huawei registered new trademarks – Huawei Mate V, Mate F, and Mate Fold at the National Institute for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) in Peru.

It’s yet to confirm whether Huawei filed trademarks for Mate F and Mate Fold at EUIPO.

A recent report, claims that Huawei is working on the successor of Huawei Mate X and it may sport a 120Hz refresh rate display. Also, it’ll come with a better display quality and improved hinge mechanism.

Currently, it’s unclear which name Huawei will choose for its next foldable phone and more importantly when the company has actually planned to launch it.
