Huawei Pura 80 series may adopt an impressive display upgrade: dual-layer OLED technology. The company is exploring tech-pack changes for its upcoming flagship smartphone lineup, and one of these will likely relate to the screen segment.

Dual-layer OLED has become a trend in the device world. The ultimate tech offers incredible display wonders to users, bringing the visual quality to a new level.

Weibo tipster FixedFocus reveals that the Huawei Pura 80 series may follow the latest display trend and equip dual-layer OLED. However, the dilemma is whether the company will use the technology for all models or only for high-end variants.

The dual-layer OLED uses two light-emitting layers to double the brightness. It overlaps two stack tandem OLED layers to create a single consistent device screen.

Each layer in this mechanism operates at a lower brightness level to reduce stress on the organic material, leading to a longer lifespan of the phone. This also increases the brightness and efficiency of the screen and consumes less power.

Huawei initially used this technology for the MatePad Pro 12.2 tablet. It has also adopted the tech for the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design. Now, the phone maker will likely continue this trend with the Pura 80 smartphones.

Since the company has confined the display upgrade to high-end models, the Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra are expected to feature dual-layer OLED. Other variants may stick to the premium LTPO display panel, similar to their predecessors.

The leak further hints at the display distributor of the Pura 80 series. BOE (Beijing Oriental Electronics) is currently the main supplier of dual-layer OLED screens. Thus, Huawei may take the screen panels for its new flagship from BOE.

Pura 70 Series: Display

Huawei has used a premium LTPO OLED panel for the Pura 70 series. The respective display technology ensures a significant boost in the battery life of the device compared to standard OLED screens. It auto-adjusts the display as per the content displayed on the screen and reduces the power consumption.

While the overall display performance of the Pura 70 series was at its peak, it would be interesting to see what screen upgrades the Pura 80 models will bring to the table.
