Huawei Pura 80 Pro+/Ultra models use Kirin 9020 5G processor

Huawei Pura 80 series is now official, and the flagship smartphones are now in the buzz for their mysterious chipset. A new input has now revealed that the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and the Pro+ variants are running on the Kirin 9020 5G processor.

Several Weibo tipsters noted that the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and the Pro+ models are using the Kirin 9020 chip. This is the same processor found in the Mate 70 Pro+.

Although Huawei might have upgraded the respective chip, probably with overclocked or optimized performance cores. One of the company’s senior officials said during the launch event that the new models offer robust performance over their predecessors.

Richard Yu, the Chairman of Huawei Consumer Business, announced that the Pura 80 series offers around 36% improved performance over the Pura 70 Pro+ handset.

On the greener side, the tech giant has improved its animations, transition smoothness, and the overall fluency by 47%. Looking into the leaked shots of the Pura 80 Ultra/Pro+ chip information, it shows the following CPU configuration:

• 1 Taishan large core @ 2.50GHz
• 3 Taishan medium cores @ 2.15GHz
• 4 Taishan small cores @ 1.60GHz

The chipset is further paired with the Maleoon 920 GPU with a 840MHz frequency. Pura 80 Pro chip details are unknown at present but it may use the same processor.

Some tipsters mentioned that the standard Pura 80 phone may equip the Kirin 9020A 5G chip – first introduced with the Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition.

For reference, Kirin 9020A is a downclocked version of the 9020. It lacks in terms of large and medium core frequency, which has been reduced by 100MHz.

• Kirin 9020A: 2 large core @ 2.40GHz + 6 medium cores @ 2.00GHz + 4 small cores @ 1.60GHz

Yet the chipset is capable of delivering 35% improved performance over the Mate 60 Pro and won’t showcase much difference in daily use. Hence, we can expect an effective performance experience with all of the Huawei Pura 80 smartphones.
