Huawei Pura 80 Pro may use SmartSens 50MP main camera over IMX989
Huawei Pura 80 series flagship will launch next month, and it is finally shaking things up with a new primary lens. The resolution of the Huawei Pura 80 Pro main camera stays at 50MP, but this upgrade could be a game-changer.
The company has been using OmniVision and Sony camera sensors for its flagship models for a while. However, it seems the tech giant is planning a switch in this aspect.
DigitalChatStation now says that the Huawei Pura 80 Pro will use a new 50MP main camera sensor, developed by SmartSens. The smartphone can adopt a revamped SC5A0CS camera, which is the latest China-made 1-inch primary lens.
Earlier, the same tipster mentioned that Huawei can implement the Sony IMX 989 camera for the upcoming Pro variant. But now it hints that the OEM has replaced the respective lens with the newest SmartSens one-inch sensor.
The tipster further revealed that many phone manufacturers have started collaborating with the SmartSens firm for its dynamic range of camera sensors. After initiating the use of native core components, the Chinese OEM now aims to use even better parts for its products.

SmartSens is a leading company in China, focused on the research, development, and scale of CMOS image sensor chips. The firm is dedicated to developing advanced imaging solutions and pushing the boundaries of camera technology.
At present, we don’t know much else about the potential camera sensor. It might have larger pixels or better AI processing. Perhaps, a new main camera sensor could make photos crisper and night shots less grainy.
Other than the main camera, Pura 80 Pro might use a 12MP periscope lens with certain enhancements. Another addition could be a flat display panel with enhanced visual effects and a new screen solution to boost the viewing experience.
Huawei will unveil the flagship Pura 80 series in June this year. The exact launch date is still a secret. Though the company may tease the details in the time ahead.
