Huawei Pura 80 main camera could defeat Sony IMX989 in HDR capability

Huawei Pura 80 series main camera sensors’ details once again popped up online as we approach the tentative launch in July or August, and this time the leak focuses on the HDR capability. The new lens will likely boost the photography experience.
Weibo tipster @FixedFocus said the Huawei Pura 80 main camera sensor – named SC5A0XS could defeat Sony IMX989 and LYT900 in terms of HDR functionality.
In camera technology, HDR refers to High Dynamic Range. It is a useful method to capture and enhance images with a wider range of brightness and details. It is significantly effective in scenarios with a large contrast between light and dark areas.
Simply put, higher dynamic range in a camera leads to more realistic snaps and videos, richer colors, brighter as well as vibrant highlights, and deeper shadows.
FixedFocus reveals that the SC5A0XS sensor by SmartSens can defeat Sony IMX989 and LYT900 in terms of HDR capability. Even though it has the same pixel size (1.6µm) and optical size (1-inch) as the Sony IMX989 and LYT900, it surpasses them in dynamic range with 110dB, much more than Sony lens sensors.

Sony IMX 989
Huawei has used the Sony IMX 989 sensor for Pura 70 Ultra as the main camera. The 50MP large sensor leads to enhanced low-light performance, better bokeh, improved video quality, and higher image resolution. The company may use this sensor in the Pura 70 Pro this time.
LYT900
The LYT900 is also Sony’s camera sensor with a 50MP one-inch size. It is a fusion of all-pixel autofocus technology and Dual Conversion Gain. The first tech ensures enhanced low-light performance, faster autofocus, as well as improved dynamic range. Meanwhile, the second one offers better image quality in various lighting conditions.
Sony IMX989 sensor delivers around 80dB HDR, while LYT900 offers over 90dB. But the new 50MP main camera sensor from SmartSens can bring a 110dB HDR range.
Perhaps the company will use this new HDR camera lens for the Pura 80 series, mainly for the Ultra variant. If true, we can expect a whole new level of the photography experience with the upcoming Pura models.
