Huawei plans to develop 100000 910C and 300000 910B AI chips this year
Huawei is planning several big moves this year and one of these is to build 100000 Ascend 910C AI chips. The company has already increased its AI processor yield by 40% so far. Now it aims to further raise this figure by 60% in 2025.
FinancialTimes today shared the report that Huawei is improving its AI chip production. The company has doubled the yield from 20% to 40% of its latest Ascend 910C. Meanwhile, it is working to reach the production target of a 60% increase.
The report further revealed that Huawei aims to develop around 100000 AI Ascend 910C chips and 300000 Ascend 910B processors this year.
Huawei developed the Ascend 910C chipset last year. The company has sent the new AI chip samples to some top tech companies in China but hasn’t focused on its mass production. Looks like the OEM will make a move this year in this case.
In 2024, Huawei built 200000 Ascend 910B processors. The company has been struggling with poor AI chip production due to outdated equipment as well as fewer engineers for the management and maintenance of chip tools. Read More
Although the firm planned to revamp its AI chip production from the first quarter of this year. It seems Huawei is finally coming back to the original chip route.
The latest report also highlights that Huawei now holds 75% of China’s total AI chip production. The company is slowly gaining momentum in the AI industry regardless of tougher US sanctions and other foreign challenges.
Ascend 910C is said to achieve 60% of Nvidia H100 inference performance. Its improved functioning implies that China will soon eliminate its reliance on Nvidia.
The reported Huawei AI chip figure for this year is not much. Nvidia still has a chance to ship more AI processors in China this year. Yet, the move hints that Huawei’s growth is becoming consistent in the Chinese AI chip industry.
