Huawei phones returned to top in China amid supply challenges: Chairman

Huawei Consumer Business Chairman – Richard Yu has recently published a “New Year Letter” for its employees. The executive wished all its employees and revealed how Huawei phones regained the top position in China despite supply challenges.
Richard Yu mentioned Huawei’s past challenges and future strategies. After the US sanctions, the company’s smartphone business went through a major downgrade in both China and the global market. Supply Chain was unable to support effectively.
The Chinese phone maker took a major step in 2023, releasing the Mate 60 series with Kirin 5G. Since the company was chained in tough restrictions for 5 years, it suffered due to the supply chain. Even now, it’s an issue to get completely resolved.
Lack of advanced chipmaking tools resulted in the shortage of Kirin chipsets, leading to a delay in device production. As a result, Huawei found it difficult to fulfill consumers’ purchasing needs. However, the situation began improving gradually.
The executive mentioned that the supply chain has been a major problem in the past, yet Huawei phones managed to reach the top position on its home turf (China).

Achievements:
Yu further noted that after 5 years of constant struggle, the company’s phone business regained the growth track last year. Pura 70 series sales crossed 10 million units, Mate XT won “Time Magazine Innovation Award”, and Mate 70 launched as the most powerful Mate in history with new AI features and Kirin 5G performance.
The company not only scored good points in the smartphone competition but also made achievements in tablet, PC, headphones, smart business, smart driving solutions, and other categories. It’s just the beginning and there’s more to come.
Huawei Chairman already mentioned to launch “unimaginable products” in 2025. Pura 80 series, Nova 14, and a rumored foldable tablet are seemingly in the pipeline. How the company makes this year profitable would be worth looking at.
