Huawei phones are doing great without GMS – thanks to HarmonyOS

Huawei 5G phones are performing greatly in the market without GMS, and a major credit for this success goes to HarmonyOS. The company has given the third major operating system choice to consumers in the Android and iOS-dominated era.
The Chinese tech giant has been struggling in the tech world for the past five to six years. Apart from chip development, the company dealt with software problems.
U.S. added Huawei to the entity list in 2019 and snatched away its access to many high-tech products. One of these is Google Message Services (GMS). As a result, the company went through a big dip in the Chinese/global smartphone industry.
Despite challenges, Huawei did not give up and introduced HarmonyOS in 2019. The company kept on improving its software with new enhancements over the years.
Finally, Huawei decided to decouple its phones from Android as well as the GMS family and launched HarmonyOS NEXT. The self-developed OS debuted last year alongside the Mate 70 models. It packs China-made components like the harmony kernel which is said to be 3x more efficient than the traditional Android Linux.
With the native HarmonyOS, Huawei gave China the third option in the phone Android/iOS-ruled market. As per a Bloomberg report, the software reached around a billion Chinese smartphone users to date and will likely expand in the future.

HarmonyOS NEXT is full of smart features and AI capabilities. It is faster, smoother, and safer than previous versions. Compared to Android and iOS, it claims to deliver more significant performance with better app launches and fluency.
As of now, the Chinese OEM is ready to unveil new devices in 2025 with the power of HarmonyOS NEXT. The company’s officials confirmed to ditch the Android OS in the favor of their self-developed software system.
On the other hand, Huawei is working on the native HarmonyOS app ecosystem. Since the new OS version doesn’t support Android apps at all, the company is developing native HarmonyOS apps that can offer even better services than their alternatives.
It seems Huawei is planning to break the dominance of Android and iOS in the consumer market with its HarmonyOS-powered devices. The China-made software still requires certain improvements. But overall, HarmonyOS is allowing Huawei phones to perform great in the market even without GMS.
