According to the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIIPA), on July 9, Huawei published a new smartphone design patent, which was filed by the company on 15th December 2020.

In terms of innovation, Huawei always makes lots of efforts to develop something different from others. Talking about this patent, the design shown in the image is quite impressive and interesting.

Front side:

The front design of the smartphone has a large screen with curved edges. Also, there is no hole or notch to place the front camera system. This increases the possibility of featuring an under-display camera (UDC) system.

Rear side:

Talking about the rear side, a triple camera system is placed in a pill shape camera bump vertically placed on the top left corner of the smartphone. Just below the cameras, a round shape flashlight is also placed there.

Yet the camera seems to experiment in two variants, the first version uses camera lenses on the center-horizontal of the camera design. The other one is odd and fed just left to the very left as shown in the image below.

Sides:

On the right side of the phone has a volume rocker and a power button embedded with the fingerprint sensor. Also, the receiver is directed upwards, instead of forwards.

The bottom side consists of a primary microphone, SIM-card tray, USB-C port, and speakers. The top has a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a secondary mic, while the left side remains plane.

About the technology:

Several manufacturers are planning to launch their under-display camera smartphones. Huawei is also looking for something similar and to advance with such tech, the company has applied for some patents on UDC. Yet, there’s no confirmation when it’ll be planning to inherit the UDC for actual production.
