Huawei patent highlights ‘on the spot’ vehicle turning capability

Huawei has issued a new patent for “on the spot” vehicle turning methods. It sounds an amazing capability that could make your smart car take turns at the same point without any extra effort. It will create a new milestone in the smart car industry.
Huawei has applied for the latest patent entitled “vehicle control method, vehicle controller and vehicle for achieving on-the-spot turning of the vehicle”.
It would be integrated as an “on the spot steering feature” in vehicles and will allow car drivers to turn the vehicle at the same point, without moving it to and fro.
As per the patent application, the company aims to achieve on-the-spot smart car turning within a small radius as well as low tire angles. The right front wheel will help the vehicle rotate forward, whereas the left rear wheel will let it rotate in reverse.
On-the-Spot Turning Mode
In the on-the-spot turning mode, the user has to turn the car’s steering wheel to the left (more than a preset angle) and simultaneously open the accelerator (more than zero), pressing the gear in the forward direction.

Doing so will enable the system to turn the right front and rear wheel forward while turning the left rear wheel in the opposite direction. Thus, the vehicle will achieve on-the-spot turning of the vehicle.
The patent further reveals that the car system will make adjustments during this process as per accelerator movements. If the opening of the accelerator pedal is greater than zero and less than the preset angle, the car will lock the left rear wheel.
When the opening is greater or equal to the preset opening, it will rotate the wheel in the opposite direction. These adjustments will ensure stability and efficiency of the vehicle.
AITO M9 has a compass turn feature, which is somewhat similar to the above-mentioned capability. However, it takes more radius while turning at the same point. Perhaps the company aims to reduce this radius with the new patent.
