On December 23, 2021, Huawei rewrote its smartphone lineup and launched the Huawei P50 Pocket. This is a new flip-style foldable display smartphone that folds inwards vertically. This launch also pushes the Chinese tech maker into a whole new category of the smartphone segment that has only been achieved by a few such as Samsung.
So, without further ado, let’s dig into the Huawei P50 Pocket.
The Huawei P50 Pocket is launched with a new-generation Multi-Dimensional Hinge and Multi-Dimensional Lifting design, allowing the smartphone to achieve a seamless fold and slim form factor. The display, measuring 6.9 inches diagonally when unfolded, offers an immersive viewing experience with highly detailed and smooth visuals.
Furthermore, being a 21:9 display, it has an incredibly wide perspective that is perfect for cinematic content. The smart Cover Screen delivers notifications and allows users to access certain services quickly and easily, without needing to unfold the device.
Richard Yu, Executive Director of Huawei, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, CEO of Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, said, “For the Huawei P Series, we have never stopped exploring the possibilities of technological aesthetics and smart photography. This time with the Huawei P50 Pocket, we’ve once again made a breakthrough in technological aesthetics and smartphone form factor. This is what allowed us to offer an improved folding design, as well as better photography and more exciting interactive experiences.”
The art of light and shadows, molded into a foldable smartphone:
The Huawei P50 Pocket comes in two dreamy colorways in overseas markets: White and Premium Gold. The White colorway emanates diamond-like brilliance, while the Premium Gold is an elevation of artistry.
Inspired by the brilliance of diamonds, the White colorway recreates the beauty of the gemstone with its ultra-thin glass back. The unique 3D micro-sculpture design resonates with the interplay of light and shadows, bringing diamond-like brilliance and a sense of artistry to the back of the smartphone.
The Premium Gold colorway, available on the Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition, is designed in collaboration with prominent haute couture designer, Iris Van Herpen, and is guided by the principle of “symbiosis”. The back of the device captures the shadows and texture of the earth, which are brought to life through the advanced 3D micro-sculpture design.
The Huawei P50 Pocket also adopts the signature Huawei P50 Series double-ring design, with one ring housing the camera module and the other the smart Cover Screen. This forms a striking duo that is instantly recognizable.
The Huawei P50 Pocket folds seamlessly into an ultra-slim, lightweight body that is a joy to hold. Unfolded, it offers a generous 6.9-inch, 21:9 display, which delivers an extraordinary experience when watching videos or movies.
It also has a pixel density of 442ppi and supports 1.07 billion colors and the P3 wide color gamut – providing incredible color authenticity and pristine picture quality. The display also supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, as well as a 300Hz touch sampling rate. Furthermore, the 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming support ensures users’ eyes are always protected.
The culmination of years of R&D, the new-generation Multi-Dimensional Hinge is a total upgrade from its predecessor, featuring an even shorter radius.
Combined with the exclusive Multi-Dimensional Lifting design, it allows the device to be even slimmer and produce a smoother screen when unfolded. Innovative materials, such as Zirconium-based liquid metal and 2,100MPa Ultra-high Strength Steel, are also used to build the hinge system, further improving the reliability of the folding mechanism.
Ultra Spectrum Camera Matrix: A New Huawei Image:
The Huawei P50 Pocket is launched with Ultra Spectrum Camera Matrix for better camera technology. It comprises a 40MP True-Chroma Camera, a 13MP Ultra Wide Angle Camera, a 32MP Ultra Spectrum Camera, a 10-Channel Multi-Spectrum Sensor, and an Ultra Spectrum illuminator.
From the Huawei P10 Series’ iconic dual-camera system to the Huawei P50 Series introducing HUAWEI XD Optics and True-Chroma Image Engine, every generation of the HUAWEI P Series has represented a major breakthrough.
Built on the foundations of the solid camera technology of previous HUAWEI P Series devices, the Ultra Spectrum Camera Matrix has even better image reproduction capability, enabling the HUAWEI P50 Pocket to capture even more nuanced details and produce even clearer images. The HUAWEI Ultra Spectrum Camera is incorporated into the HUAWEI XD Fusion Pro image engine to deliver images with more depth and layers in the frame for a better photography experience.
The Huawei P50 Pocket features rear camera portrait selfie algorithms and uses the big camera sensor to boost low light performance, allowing the foldable smartphone to take full advantage of its form factor and empower users to take superior more atmospheric selfies. No matter whether the user is capturing in a backlit or low light environment, the rear camera always produces portraits with detailed, natural-looking skin.
The Huawei P50 Pocket’s Huawei Ultra Spectrum Camera combines powerful hardware and software, as well as the tweaking of over 2,000 colors across the full P3 color gamut, to let users accurately capture what they see.
As part of the Huawei P50 Pocket’s HUAWEI Ultra Spectrum Camera, the Ultra Wide Angle Lens has a 120-degree wide field of view, making it a great camera for capturing beautiful vistas, and delivers macro photography with impeccable clarity.
Using the Ultra Spectrum Fluorescence Photography feature, the Huawei P50 Pocket can also capture content and details that are unseen by the human eye, enabling users to unveil patterns that were previously hidden in plain sight.
The Huawei P50 Pocket launched Sunscreen detection for the first time. Accessible via the Mirror app, this handy feature visualizes the spread of sunscreen on the skin to help users check for uncovered spots and avoid getting sunburnt.
The Huawei P50 Pocket’s Cover Screen supports the display of notifications, schedules, calendar, music, weather, and control of other features. A range of vibrant themes are available, so users can customize their Cover Screen interaction experience. Content and services seamlessly flow between both screens and users can even access the camera from the Cover Screen.
The Huawei P50 Pocket also supports Super Privacy mode. For maximum privacy when the device is folded, Huawei P50 Pocket automatically disables the cameras, microphone, and location, and re-enables them upon unfolding.
The Huawei P50 Pocket packs a 4,000 mAh battery and supports a 40W Huawei SuperCharge for an effortless, high-speed top-up. The Huawei P50 Pocket is equipped with some of the most cutting-edge technologies to deliver great user experiences. The Snapdragon 888 4G mobile platform ensures flagship performance and fantastic versatility across various scenarios.

Both Huawei Nova 10 and Nova 10 Pro are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 4G processor with octa-core architecture – 4 x Cortex-A78 at 2.42 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz. On the other hand, you will get Adreno 642L GPU for faster graphics processing.
If we’re talking about a Huawei phone we must have to take a special look at its camera system.
Both Nova 10 and Nova 10 Pro feature the same rear camera count consisting of three lenses:
- 50MP main camera
- 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera
- A depth of field camera
However, the Pro version has a big camera lens at f/1.8, while the non-Pro version has an f/1.9 aperture in total.
