Huawei Mate 80 series is rumored to feature a slimmer, lighter design over its predecessors, alongside powerful camera technologies. The next-gen flagship may not only amaze users in terms of performance but also the photography experience.
Input from SmartPikachu suggests that the Huawei Mate 80 series could adopt a thinner + lighter design and major camera upgrades compared to the Mate 70.
The tipster says that Huawei is exploring self-made camera technologies for its new Mate models. These techs will revamp the placement of lenses in the device.
Besides, the new self-developed camera technologies will focus on the lens convexity and airtightness. Lens convexity refers to the shape of the camera’s surface, determining how the light rays bend as they pass through it. Airtightness may aim to seal the lens rightfully, occupying less space.
These two changes probably reduce the lens curve, making the devices slim and lightweight. It will further enhance the amount of light intake in the camera, offering well-exposed, clearer, and brighter images with accurate color details.

As per early revelations, the Chinese firm has started testing independent camera sensors for its high-end flagship variants. Pura 80 Ultra could be the first to use Huawei’s self-developed camera setup. This step may continue for Mate 80.
Thus, the Mate 80 flagship can use a high-quality camera setup featuring a 1-inch primary sensor and supplemented by ultra-wide, periscope, and an upgraded multi-spectral lens. We may also see changes on the front-facing selfie snapper.
These new hardware optimizations seem to be a reason behind slipping the Huawei Mate 80 series launch to the end of Q4 2025. Apart from camera upgrades, the top-end models may come with an improved software version and AI capabilities.
After seeing the changes in the Pura X chipset, expectations for a new Kirin 5G chip with the Mate 80 series are reaching new heights.
