Huawei Mate 80 series can follow Mate 70 display specs, but with a twist
After the Pura 80’s entry, Huawei is working on the next flagship lineup – the Mate 80 series that may follow its predecessor in display specs. But this follow-up could show an interesting twist, something Huawei has been in rumors for a while.
DigitalChatStation has shared the display specs of an upcoming flagship, probably for the Huawei Mate 80 series. The tipster said that the standard model may feature a 6.75-inch screen with 1.5K resolution.
While the high-end version could sport a 6.89-inch screen. These high-end variants will further support 3D face recognition with improved security functions.
For comparison, the standard Mate 70 has a 6.7-inch screen, and the Pro or Ultra variants feature a 6.9-inch display panel. It seems the Mate 80 base version will be slightly bigger than its predecessor.
Twist – a difference!
Huawei may give a major twist to its flagship phones this time. Instead of curved panels for the high-end Mate 80 variants, the company could use flat screens for the entire lineup.
If true, that would be a significant upgrade as the tech giant has been using a curved panel for the high-end flagship handsets and a plain panel for the vanilla version.

The company has been in leaks for a long while to ditch curved panels for future smartphones and use flat displays instead. Thus, it might turn out to be true.
The tipster also mentioned “dual-layer OLED” in the leak, suggesting that these specifications belong to the Mate 80 series. Many early leaks claimed that the company would continue to use a customized dual-layer OLED for its next flagship models.
