Huawei Mate 80 may launch in Q4 2025, avoiding clash with iPhone 17?

Huawei Mate 80 series was expected to follow the “clash trend” with Apple iPhone 17 and launch in September, but the date may slip to Q4 2025. A new input sheds light on the official unveiling of the Mate 80 ahead of the Pura 80 flagship.

Weibo tipster DigitalChatStation revealed that Huawei began testing 2.5D flat screens for all Mate 80 series models. The difference could be visible in punch holes.

Apart from the Mate 80 series, the Pura 90 series, mid-range, and entry-level models may also adopt the flat screen, making curved display panels a part of history.

Inputs further state that the Huawei Mate 80 series smartphones will debut by the end of Q4 2025. That contradicts an early rumor saying the new Mate models will clash with the iPhone 17 lineup, just like previous flagship showdowns.

Apple has a specific time to launch its top-end iPhone models – September. Consumers have been watching a face-off between the American tech giant and Huawei since 2022: Mate 50 vs iPhone 14.

The company slightly changed this trend last year by unveiling the Mate XT tri-fold against iPhone 16 models. Huawei might have similar plans this time and may unveil a dynamic product (rather than Mate 80) for a head-to-head with iPhone 17.

The new input is in line with a previous rumor suggesting a delay in the Mate 80 series launch. But we still have a long way to go before we witness the new Mate models’ unveiling. By that time, these details may change.

Huawei could delay the launch of its upcoming products this year. The first example in this case is the Pura 80 series, which is now expected to unveil in June 2025.

Huawei Mate 80 may bring two small-screen models this year with a 6.3 and 6.5-inch screen. Meanwhile, the other variants feature 6.7 and 6.8-inch models with extremely narrow bezel design for a super interesting look.
