According to CINNO Research’s monthly Chinese mobile phone sales monitoring data, the sales of smartphones in the Chinese market in 2020 is about 307 million, a year-on-year decrease of 21%.
This is the fourth consecutive year of decline in the Chinese smartphone market sales since 2017. The main reason behind the lowest sales is the negative impact of the epidemic and insufficient stimulation of the market demand side due to the technological innovation of the 5G replacement smartphone terminal.
CIINO reports show that the top three smartphone brands of China’s market in terms of sales are Huawei (including Honor), Vivo (including IQOO), and OPPO. The total sales of the three companies account for 70% of the domestic smartphone market.
Affected by the US ban, Huawei smartphone sales reached 114 million. However, Huawei’s total sales fell by 24%, but it still ranks No. 1 in smartphone sales in China in 2020, with a market share of 37%, a year-on-year decrease of 1.5. Honor sales accounted for 41%, reaching 46.64 million units and a market share of 15%.
Talking about more smartphone manufactures, Xiaomi and Apple are very close and secures the fourth and fifth position with 37.82 million and 37.51 million units respectively.
The sixth-place Samsung was far behind the previous brand. The market share ranking in 2020 is similar to that in 2019, but the sales of Huawei, Vivo, and OPPO all declined slightly, while Xiaomi and Apple grew rapidly.
We predict that in 2021, the demand for China’s smartphone market will pick up and sales will reach 336 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%
If the future international trade environment is conducive to the recovery of the industrial chain and the development of 5G commercialization is promoted, the Chinese smartphone market will usher in a continuous upward cycle.

Huawei has been the star performer of China, it’s known as the revolutionize various fields of technology, especially in Telecommunication. Aside from its work in tech, Huawei is also known for its logo, which is known widely among consumers and industry partners.
However, the current logo wasn’t the only logo that Huawei had since the start. According to the information, the Chinese tech company has started its journey in the industry with another logo after the start.
The logo has its own story, so let’s get into it.
The current version of the Huawei brand logo was adopted in 2018, and before that, the logo has been changed two times.
Huawei was founded in 1987, and the company has been devoted to Chinese countryman enthusiasm. Therefore, the founding members along with Ren want to name the company depending on the devotion to people.
Based on this, the first logo was designed and brought forth. The initial design has 15 red lights and it means “Rising sun and the sunrise in the east”. Later, the logo was being compared with the logo of Shell petroleum.
The first logo also has the label “Huawei Technologies”, written in black letters.
In 2006, the management decided to carry a major change in the logo and changed 15 red lights into 8 plums with round petals, to form the shape of a chrysanthemum, which is a flowering plant native to East Asia.
In the second version of the logo, the company removed “Technologies” from the brand label and kept only “HUAWEI” to be precise, and adopted a more western look.
The new petal look has its own meaning, according to Huawei, it means we always insist on starting everything from customer needs, insisting on people-oriented, and treating our diversified employees as the core asset of the company.”
Why changed 15 red lights to 8 petals?
Although there are is no official confirmation available on this matter but there are some following roundups available online:
- When Huawei first started its business, it had 15 founding employees. Later, some people left one after another, and in 2006 there were only 8 left, that is, 15 changed to 8.
- Huawei is a communications manufacturer and cannot do without a “twisted pair.” The commonly used “twisted pair” has 8 cores, which correspond exactly to 8 petals.
- Huawei worked 15 hours a day at the beginning of its business, but it was shortened to 8 hours later, which means 15 changes to 8. (This is obviously a bit of a joke.)
- After turning into 8 petals, it is more like Ren Zhengfei’s “Fei”.
In 2018, Huawei unveiled the third-gen logo, which is simple and plain excluding style from font and gradient from the petals.
Xiaomi and Huawei invested in a battery supplier company
According to some Chinese media sources, Xiaomi and Huawei are strategically planning to invest in Weilan, a battery supplier from Weilai, China. This supplier of semi-solid batteries has a project of value at 5 billion yuan and the total investment will account for around 500 million yuan, which is a huge amount.
Back in August, Huawei, Xiaomi, and another Chinese company have signed an agreement to invest in Weilan battery supplier and Xiaomi has now entered the delivery stage.
On January 7, Weilan launched a 150-degree semi-solid battery pack. The information shows that Weilan is focusing on the development and production of hybrid solid-liquid electrolyte lithium-ion batteries and all-solid-state lithium batteries.
It is the only industrialization platform for solid-state battery technology in the Clean Energy Laboratory of the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The company was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Beijing. This facility has 3 production bases in Fangshan, Beijing, Liyang, Jiangsu, and Huzhou, Zhejiang.
By March 2021, Xiaomi Group announced to build a car and planning to spend around 10 billion USD to enter this business field. This Chinese tech maker has also confirmed that it’ll launch a new car in the first half of 2024, which is not far away but it would be interesting to see what kind of technology it would bring.
On the other hand, Huawei has already helped industry partners in the Auto business to build new cars with its whole car smart solutions and announced that it will not manufacture any car whatsoever.

In the past month, big tech maker has been under shortage of power that led them to issues such as downtime for big social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp. Now, there is another platform that has been added to this queue as Telegram goes down.
Today, I’ve faced an issue with my Telegram on PC, and on Mobile as I wasn’t able to send or receive messages for minutes. When I quit the app to resolve, the app has removed all of my login credentials and I had to log back them again.
Although, the problem has been partially resolved but the glitches are still there because there are random shutdowns and delays in sending messages that keep occurring continuously since the entire scenario happened lately this day.
Currently, Telegram has not issued any statement on this matter but we’ll keep you posted.
