At the opening day of MWC 2023, Huawei announced a partnership with UNESCO Global Literacy Alliance (GAL) to fight and eradicate digital illiteracy in developing regions.

The announcement was made at the Digital Talent Summit co-hosted by Huawei and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL, GAL Secretariat) at MWC 2023. According to the cooperation agreement, Huawei and UIL reached a consensus to jointly promote the use of ICT technology to improve cultural literacy.

The agreement mentions that Huawei will provide funding to support UIL’s expansion of existing programs to help educators in developing countries improve their technology use capabilities. This project has covered Bangladesh, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, and Nigeria and may expand further.

It also makes Huawei the first private company to become a member of GAL. On the flip side, Huawei expressed gratitude that its goals align with GAL’s vision to eradicate digital illiteracy among young people around the world.

“The world is changing rapidly, and we need to work together to achieve quality education and lifelong learning for all through close cooperation,” said David Atchoarena, President of UIL “Huawei’s expertise in learning innovation will be a great asset to the Global Literacy Alliance. Collaborative projects like this ensure that no one is left behind.”

To mark this achievement, Zhang Yuan, Vice President of Huawei’s Corporate Communications Department “Obtaining a good education is often the key to success in life. As an enterprise in the technology industry that focuses on innovation and talent cultivation, Huawei has the responsibility to cultivate the technology useability of the global public, and do our best to let More people benefit.” “We are honored to be able to better fulfill this responsibility by partnering with UNESCO,” she added.
