Last year was difficult for Huawei and it is now looking forward to a bright 2023. However, there is some statics that shows Huawei is the only phone manufacturer to attend positive numbers in terms of annual growth.

According to the data compiled by Omdia research, Huawei has posted over 6 million smartphones in the global market in the first quarter of 2023. The company held over 2% market share. The market share of the fourth quarter last year was also the same but with 8 million sales. While it was 6 million in total at the beginning of 2022.

As of the first quarter of this year, Huawei has achieved a YoY growth of 14.3%, while resting on 10th place in the global smartphone market. But there’s a 14.7% decline in the quarterly shipment between Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.

Despite a quarterly decline, Huawei is the only phone maker among all 10 companies to achieve double-digit annual growth. Even if it’s low in shipment, the growth matters because of the difficult conditions met by the tech maker throughout the past year.

Circumstances:

Huawei has been one of the biggest victims of political games and the company has already surpassed Samsung for the top spot in 2020. The company shipped over 55 million devices in the second quarter of that year.

After U.S. restrictions the company had to give up on creating smartphones without 5G and Google Play Store, which led to a sharp decline in sales performance. However, Huawei restarted the entire smartphone supply chain and it took over 3 years to come to a functional stage. Now, the tech maker is resuming the rhythm of launching smart devices among consumers.

2023:

Huawei began an anticipated year and the company launched several new smartphones. Over the past months including March and April, Huawei held back-to-back launch conferences in order to ship more devices to consumers. These aren’t only smartphones but various smart gadgets that were in half over the past two years.

And there’s one more launch coming in May 2023. It means we can expect better results for the second quarter of 2023 and will keep you posted.

Top players:

Among the top three players, Samsung and Xiaomi reported an 18.3% and 22.0% decline in shipments year-on-year. Meanwhile, Apple remains flat with its 1Q22 shipment levels in 1Q23.

Samsung had the highest yearly shipments by 1Q23, which accounts for 60 million shipments. Apple comes in second spot with 57 million yearly shipments and Xiaomi ranks third with 31 million shipments annually.
