Huawei introduces liquid-cooled 1.5 megawatt supercharger for EVs

Today, Huawei launched a brand-new fully liquid-cooled 1.5 megawatt-class supercharger for EVs (electric vehicles). It is the industry’s first completely liquid-cooled charging solution that aims to deliver faster and power-efficient services.

New Huawei Supercharger for EVs has the highest power of 1.5 megawatt and can reload 20kWh of electricity per minute. It features a double-barrelled mechanism and has a continuous charging current of 2400A.

Huawei 1.5 megawatt charging solution claims to charge a heavy truck up to 90% within 15 minutes. Meanwhile, reloading will be 4x higher than other charging piles.

Speaking of efficiency, the new EV charger is 30% more efficient and costs 20% less in the operational segment compared to previous-gen charging solutions.

It further supports plug-and-charge for 99% of existing EV models. Hence, users don’t have to worry about compatibility. It comes with a service life of 10 years. The supercharger can also deal with thermal runaway during high-power charging and remains stable in -30°C to 60°C.

Internal Parameters

Huawei’s liquid-cooled 1.5 megawatt supercharger has a self-made SiC chip that has 3x more energy than outdated silicon-based devices. It adjusts the output power to avoid impacting the power grid. It can not only power up heavy trucks but also passenger cars and construction machinery.

Huawei has partnered with SF Express and JD.com to deploy over 5000 electric heavy trucks adapted to megawatt supercharging and will fully build such a route from 2025 to 2027.
